Finding and correcting fatal error in gdm3 configuration in RoboLinux installation.

I have installed RoboLinux on my sister's PC in which to run Windows XP as a virtual machine. All was well until I took the unfortunate step of moving the bottom dock to the left side of the screen. Since then I can boot into the OS only briefly before I get a fatal error message and have to reboot.

This is the worst scenario I have ever experienced in fifteen years of using Linux and is proving difficult to recover from.

I have ascertained that the GUI is Gnome3 and it stores its settings in binary format under /org/gnome/gnome-panel.

Where does GNOME 3 store panel orientation?

Settings for GNOME Panel are stored in dconf, now, and you can access them using dconf-editor under: /org/gnome/gnome-panel.

Stuff in dconf is stored in a binary format, which is why those options didn't show up in a search.

To run dconf-editor:

So that leaves me with no option but to reinstall RoboLinux, for the fourth time, and this time I have to overwrite the /home directory as the last time I reinstalled, leaving the /home directory in place, the problem persisted. This will mean that all the changes I had made, including setting up VirtualBox to run Windows XP as a virtual machine, will have to be done over again. Fortunately the many changes I have made in Windows XP VM will persist through this process as I have copied the two directories containing the  VM and its vdi file over to another partition. In fact the vdi file is completely portable and I have successfully imported it into VirtualBox on my own PC where I can familiarise myself with using it as a VM in order to support my sister's use of it on her PC.
